Roles

Alright....brace yourselves I'm going to start a collection of posts over the next few days about roles at Disney's Walt Disney World College Program NOT Disneyland.  I'm sure some of this info is quite relevant, but I do know for a fact that Disneyland and DisneyWorld have some variety in role requirements and jobs.

I'm going to talk to you about roles.  Roles galore! Roles are pretty dang important when applying for the college program and your preferences on roles and your experience in any of those areas will help determine where you will get placed.  I hope that these next several posts will help some of you who are unsure about your decisions to find a great fit, while also acting as a place for me to blab on and on about each job (best of both worlds I think!) I'm not claiming to be an expert on roles and although I haven't been a member of the college program yet (CROSSING FINGERS AND TOES), I do pride myself on my information that I have accrued while most surreptitiously stalking and reading other people's blogs and board posts.
Don't fret! This shouldn't be stressful.

Just as a warning, I will not be discussing all of the roles....that would take quite a few posts and there just isn't enough available online info to give in depth detail about all of them, but I will do my best to help all of you become better informed mice-in-training.

And remember this is just one girl's opinion so please no hateful comments :)
Now for some general information:
Every blog will tell you that variety is key and I'm hear to tell you....the exact same thing
Choose as many options as you would be willing to do.  Don't put down all of them if you absolutely hate the idea of custodial.  You don't want to ruin your experience with a job you wouldn't want.  I would suggest ranking at least 5 roles although I will be ranking upwards of 8 different roles.

The application for the DCP is pretty straightforward when it comes to role choices.  All of the roles will be listed on the application and there will be a place where you can alter your preference for the role from high to mid, low and no interest.  I would suggest placing the top 5 or so roles you want on high interest and the rest on mid to low with no interest roles being ones you would never accept.  Be aware that if you place a role on low interest there might still be a chance you get placed in that role.

And in no particular order here are my role choices:
Attractions
Main Entrance Operations
Concierge
Hospitality
Full Service Food & Beverage
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique/Pirate League

Merchandise
Character Attendant

Character Performer

I essentially would like to do anything but quick service food and beverage, custodial and lifeguard.

My next post will be all about attractions! Stay tuned!
