Attractions

 Attractions, Attractions, ATTRAAAAAAAHAAAAACTIONSSS.

Besides Character Performer, Attractions is one of the most requested roles. Why? Cause it's so much fun!  I like to think as people who work attractions as fun captains.  They are the ambassadors of Mickey and get to operate the lovely machinery that brings so much joy and happiness to the little kiddies...and the big kiddies!

If you have visited the Disney College Program website anytime within the last year, you will have noticed that it has been revamped and descriptions for roles have been deleted.  Lucky enough I was able to procure some of the old website descriptions to help in explaining to the fullest the roles available.

Responsibilities for Attractions may include:
  • Working at one or more of the "rides" or theater shows
  • Loading and unloading Guests from an attraction
  • Operating sophisticated ride systems
  • Memorizing and delivering lengthy narrations on a microphone to large groups
  • Handling the evacuation of an attraction when necessary
  • Monitoring Guest flow and providing a safe Guest experience
  • Assisting with audience control, including during parades
  • Operating a motorized vehicle
  • Cleaning areas surrounding attractions
  • Working with FastPass®, the ticketing distribution system that confirms attraction ride times
  • Standing for extended periods, working outdoors
Here is also a lovely video showing some attraction CM (cast members) in their role.  Although the footage is quite staged, it gives a good example of some general day to day work.

Don't let this be you!
As an attractions cast member you should expect late hours especially at MK (unless you work at AK) CP's are usually scheduled only 30-32 hours a week! The downside to this is the crazy and stressful hours you will be burdened with during the holiday seasons and the summertime. Attraction CP's usually get pretty good hours though, because there are a lot of full time CM's in those roles who like the morning shifts.  You won't be so lucky with not getting early shifts with other roles.  TAKE NOTE IF YOU ARE NOT A MORNING PERSON!  Well it should be obvious that if you can't act like this at Disney then there is no business applying in the first place.

For me, attractions would definitely be in my top 5.  You have tons of guest interaction. WARNING: the costumes are super dowdy.  Disney recently had a change in cast costuming where basically they made everything generic and not form fitting at all! Be prepared to not care what you look like.....vain people beware.

What is particularly enticing to me about attractions is the potential to be placed in some rides that require a little more pizazz and showmanship.  The Great Movie Ride and the Jungle Cruise are some of those rides.  I know some people don't really want to learn a long spiel, but hey, you can put your own spin on it and have fun by interacting with guests while you're at it.  Sure makes the time fly by!

Please comment if you have any questions or just want to say a friendly hi :)

-Have a magical day!
